Medical Entry Test on July 20

Lahore, June 16: The entrance test 2010-11 for admission to public and private medical and dental colleges in Punjab will be held on July 20, just two weeks or so after the conclusion of the FSc pre-medical examination. The minimum passing marks will be 60 per cent.

The University of Health Sciences will conduct the test simultaneously in 12 cities -- Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Rawalpindi and Hasanabdaal – at 9am. The test will be free of cost as the chief minister has directed the admission board not to charge fee of Rs1,000.

Sources said the decision to conduct the test just two weeks after the FSc examination was meant to discourage the candidates to join academies for preparation. Earlier, there had been a gap of at least three months between the result of FSc examination and entrance test. It allowed the private academies to charge exorbitant fees from the candidates preparing themselves for the test.

UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Hussain Mubashar Malik said that the decision would provide a break to the successful candidates who would join after four months a very rigorous medical education.
"Passing UHS entrance test with a minimum score of 60 per cent is mandatory. It will also be a mandatory requirement for the university registration of MBBS and BDS students admitted to all affiliated institutions.
"Eligibility criteria for the candidates who appeared in the FSC pre-medical Part II or equivalent examination provides that he\she present FSc pre-medical Part-I certificate attested by the head of his\her institution as well as a certificate issued by the head of the institution that he\she has appeared in FSc Part-II or equivalent," the VC said.

He said the UHS entrance test would consist of 220 MCQs divided into four sections -- Physics (60), Chemistry (60), Biology (70) and English (30).

"There will be a separate entrance test for FSc and non-FSc candidates at the same time out of their respective syllabi and books. Non-FSc candidates taking the test of FSc students will be disqualified from the test and vice versa. The syllabi for both FSc and non-FSc groups are available at the UHS website (www.uhs.edu.pk)."

Prof Malik said orientation seminars for the candidates and their families would be conducted in the 12 cities between July 5 and 15.

Last year the final merit for admission to public medical and dental colleges was 82.6 per cent (aggregate).
